Changes In Life

Change. How many of us like changes in our life? Sometimes I think I love change. In my lifetime, I have moved a total of about 13 times, 10 of those were after the age of 19 and 6 of those were with my husband. My husband works for a major utility company and they like to transfer their people around. So basically, I had no choice but to get used to it and learn to like it. And I did. In fact, I learned to love it and actually start craving for a change about every 4-5 years or so! I love house hunting, I love moving into a new house and decorating and I love getting out and exploring a new city. But since we have no children and my husband’s company has been responsible for almost all of our moves, we haven’t had to do much packing or loading ourselves. Otherwise, I’d probably end up really hating it!

I also like change at the office. I love moving from space to space and setting up my new surroundings. Usually those things work out for the better. But I have to admit that during the process, it gets pretty darn frustrating when things don’t always go smoothly. It’s hard not to join in all the grumbling from co-workers that don’t do well with change. I have always tried to adjust and be positive about office changes because everything usually ends up working out just fine when it’s all said and done.

However, most times in an office move, the employee has no real control over the situation and how smoothly things go. My entire company just finished moving to a new location and I have to say that it has not and is not going very smoothly. Some things going on are preventing us from getting our work done or making it extra difficult. It’s been extremely hard to stay positive and not grumble!

Thank god for my writing. Since I began writing, it has truly changed me. It has given me a way out from depression and anxiety! Oh I still get in those moods, but not for nearly as long of periods. Why? Because I can’t go that long without thinking about my next book or story! And once I start focusing on writing again, the other things just don’t seem to matter as much and I can get my mind off of them.

Yay for books, writing, and imagination! I’d be sunk without them. How about you?

  1. Writing is definitely a good escape. I couldn't live without it. Any time I'm stressed, I know writing will remove me from that stress--at least for a little while. It helps clear my head.

  3. Writing has changed me for the better, too. Unlike you, Allyn, I used to hate changes. Even changing a piece of furniture made me anxious. But I think making the decision to write has changed me in liking changes that improve my world. Thank goodness for Writing, indeed!

  5. I'd say I don't like change, but I do it so much I think that would be a lie. Usually when things are changing I have to make myself sit down and write. It's much easier for me to write when I've got a routine going. Maybe it's an escape from the routine, who knows?

  6. I'm just the opposite, Allyn! I hate change.Being a military brat, I grew up in a world where stability was non-existent,insofar as staying in one place and going to one school was concerned. I've lived in 4 foreign countries in 3 continents, and started writing as a child to bring some kind of routine to my life. Now I'm perfectly content to stay at home, in ONE little town, have the same office for the rest of my life, and write, write, write!

  7. I dislike change, but it's out of my control, so when things are changing around me writing keeps me sane.

  8. I am not a "change" person at all. It stresses me out just thinking about it. Seriously. You seem to handle it well maybe due to necessity, but that positive attitude makes all the differance I'm sure to the people changing with you.

  9. I don't like change! I'm an Army brat, lived in more states than I can count, plus 3 foreign countries and 2 continents all before I was 12, and traveled to still other countries and another continent with my husband. I've had all the change I want in my life! I love my home, my pets, my kids and grandkids all in the same place..at least, all in the same state!

  10. Mikki,
I definitely understand why you are sick of change! I'm getting tired of changing where I live as well. And if I really liked where we are living now, I wouldn't want to change either. I sort of envy people who have a real home and have been able to live around family and friends. I have not had that in over 30 years.

  11. inluvwithwords, Great attitude! I guess that is all we can do when we have no control over change, isn't it!

  12. I love change and writing. I love your insight. This brings back memories that I've used writing and drawing as coping skills since I was a kid.

  13. Me too, Carol. It's amazing what writing has done for me. I don't spend nearly the time agonizing over things I can not change anymore. I still do it, and still too much of it I might add, but I catch myself now and go write, research writing, or read. I sleep a lot better too because my mind is always stressed. Well at least until I get a story idea in my head. Then I'm up half the night thinking about that!
